Unboxing [UK]: Blue Exorcist - Definitive Edition Part 1 & 2 (Blu-ray)

I went ahead and picked up a couple titles from the MVM 20% off Blu-ray sale that's been going on. Two of them were from the Blue Exorcist franchise. I personally wasn't up for the Aniplex sets so this edition was a reasonable way to acquire the series.

Blue Exorcist (Ao no Exorcist) is an on-going shonen series that's been adapted into 25 episodes from studio A-1 Pictures and Aniplex. However, much like a couple other adaptations a few years back, the source material was close by so filler content was included which gave folks some very mixed reactions as a result. This has been resolved thanks to the Kyoto Arc anime adaptation (which ignores the filler events entirely) airing in 2016.

These UK sets were put out by Manga Entertainment UK and had quite a rough release. The distributor had acquired the license fairly early on but at that time Aniplex had released the series across multiple DVD volumes in Japanese audio only (and English subs). Manga had to follow suit but by the time they put out their sets an English dub was announced. The 'Definitive Edition' name was given to show the customers that this was the only way to acquire the series with an English dub for the UK (at least until the complete series collection came out).

The discs interestingly enough are based on Madman's release but are pretty much close replicas of the Aniplex of America Blu-ray discs. Madman had to release the series in volume form with a disc each, so the UK version essentially took 3 volumes into one part and again for the second part. The Blu-ray is region locked and the subtitles are optional.

One day a fateful argument with Father Fujimoto forces Rin to face a terrible truth, the blood of the demon lord Satan runs in Rin's veins!
