Unboxing [UK]: Mobile Suit Gundam: The Movie Trilogy - Collector's Edition (Blu-ray)

Anime Limited have managed to offer the UK & French fans with a special release of the original 1979's movie compilation trilogy on Blu-ray! The UK release will be 500 units only exclusively to Shop AllTheAnime but French editions will be available with the same English support.

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Movie Trilogy is a compilation of films from studio Sunrise and recaps the events of the 1979 Gundam series while also taking a whole new direction to its conclusion. This trilogy is the official canon route for the Universal Century timeline so it's a good starting point for folks new to the franchise.

The set offers three films; Mobile Suit Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam II: Soldiers of Sorrow, and Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space. All were released theatrically in Japan during 1981 and 1982. The cast from the original TV series do reprise their roles for this film in addition to two versions of the soundtrack (original 2.0 and re-arranged 5.1 mix, both are included with this release).

Now there is a catch to this release, it's Japanese audio with English subtitles only. But here's the kicker, an English dub does indeed exist but Gundam creator Yomino won't allow it to be used anywhere due to his dislike over it. The dub was made back during the VHS era and is known for having Bright use a British accent.

Aside from the audio, this release contains both English and French subtitles as this was authored from the French Anime Limited branch (@anime). Subtitles cannot be turned on and off but you can switch between 2.0 and 5.1 audio without any hassle.

    1. Hi there, the subtitles aren't dubtitled as the release is just Japanese audio only (i.e. there's no dub for this set). As for the translation, they should be identical to the Nozomi's USA release when they put it out on DVD aside from the subtitle font. This release was authored differently compared to Nozomi's USA release because the UK & France Blu-ray sets have both 5.1 and 2.0 audio options whereas the USA version doesn't. Hope that helps.
