Unboxing [US]: Highschool of the Dead - Complete Collection: Collector's Edition (BD/DVD) [NSFW]

My Rightstuf packages have finally arrived and I am excited to show them to everyone. They may not be the most popular of such but I got them all on a very good deal. For the first item this one was about 75% off which to me was enough to go ahead and double-dip.

Now before I discuss the show any further, it might be best to advise you all that some of the photos I took of this set do contain minor Not Safe For Work content, there's no exposure but implied. It's typical ecchi reasons if you know what I mean. Nevertheless, here's what the set has to offer.

Highschool of the Dead was one of the first anime shows I had ever seen and I loved it. Sure the show was filled with fanservice but it worked in a sense that I honestly was not fussed about it at all. The show was filled with plenty of action and a good story that the fanservice did help balance the tone, well in my opinion that is. The anime is based on the manga of the same name and has been on hiatus since the Japanese Earthquake that struck in March 2011. The manga did get an additional chapter in May 2013 but it ended up on hiatus again. The illustrator Shōji Satō continued his focus on Triage X not long after.

The anime was produced by Madhouse with director Tetsurou Araki (Attack on Titan and Death Note) and faithfully adapted the first four volumes of the manga (with certain events switched around to make the ending less of an issue for viewers).

Highschool of the Dead was already released on Blu-ray and DVD from both Sentai Filmworks and Manga Entertainment UK for quite sometime, both selling like hotcakes. They also released the Drifters of the Dead OVA on its own (Manga UK released it first on DVD as a subtitle only release, while Sentai put it out on Blu-ray with an English dub). It was until Anime Expo 2014 when Sentai Filmworks announced plans to release special editions for some of their titles, the first ones were Beyond the Boundary (which got pushed back until October 2015), Highschool of the Dead (first catalogue title) and Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! (after demand for an English dub).

I was originally going to pre-order Highschool of the Dead until they unveiled the price tag - SRP $149.98. I felt the price was too much for what they were offering with the set so I passed on it and waited for the right moment to pick it up. It wasn't until Rightstuf's Christmas Sale where I finally got the set for $44.99, a deal which was good enough for me.

The Sentai Filmworks Collector's Edition contains the entire 12 episode series with the Drifters of the Dead OVA as well as some physical goods included. The physical goods include a booklet with some illustrations and mini-novel stories, 4 double-sided cards, a sticker with the set number, and a bandana. The artwork used for the chipboard box is actually the same one used for the Japanese Blu-ray Disc Box.

Despite pretty much being the exact same discs content-wise, they have in fact been given a new authoring. The new authoring puts the TV episodes and OVA together across 2 Blu-ray and 3 DVD discs. The English dub and original Japanese audio w/English subtitles are included with the set and unlike the original discs, these discs are geo-locked ~ meaning if you have a Blu-ray player set to United States (or a PlayStation console) you can effectively play these discs like normal.
