Unboxing [US]: Senran Kagura: Ninja Flash - Complete Series: Limited Edition (BD/DVD)

The shinobi crew at Hanzo Academy are back in their anime adaptation. Here's the unboxing/overview for Funimation's Limited Edition release.

Senran Kagura is one of my favourite guilty pleasure franchises to exist from Japan. Despite the huge amount of fanservice and sexual innuendos the games have always been really fun to play. With the anime now out on Blu-ray I've been meaning to pick this one up for a while. Part of the reason why I delayed it was because I had ran out of cash at the time and another reason was because the Limited Edition set was still around.

You may be asking why it's still around, well it's because Funimation accidently false advertised that they also picked up the OVAs in addition to the main series itself. After the set just got released the company fixed their product descriptions and not that many people picked it up in the end (pretty much forcing the series to go into S.A.V.E.). With another OVA getting released from Estival Versus, the latest game in the series, also receiving a stand-alone release in Japan. Hopefully Funimation will release an OVA collection at some point to make up for their mistakes.

The show was released in standard and limited versions, the one I picked up is the Limited Edition. This set contains the complete series on Blu-ray and DVD with some standard extras like opening/closing animations and Funimation commentaries. Unlike the video games, the anime itself also provides an English dub. The Blu-ray has locked subtitles and will work on UK and Australian Blu-ray players. The DVDs are locked to Region 1.

Plot Synopsis (via Back cover):
From the Dynamic Duo that brought you Ikki Tousen comes a revealing tale of naughty ninjas sucking down sushi rolls and busting up the competition!

Asuka and her friends may look like any other girls at Hanzo Academy, but they’re secretly studying the ancient art of Ninjutsu! While other students do their homework, Asuka and the gang push their beautiful bodies to the breaking point in pursuit of their perfect form. Life is one sexy sparring session after another until a Deviously Demented rival clan of evil ninjas ambushes the Hanzo hotties – and steals their sacred ninja scroll. Faced with their toughest – and most well-rounded – enemies ever, Asuka and her fellow Deadly Divas will have to go further than they’ve ever gone before to prove they’ve mastered the art of full frontal combat!

Whether you like blondes or brunettes; good or evil; big or EXTRA BIG; this series based on the action packed video game proves once and for all that a ninja beat down is the most exhilarating beat down of all!
