Unboxing [US]: Attack on Titan - Part 1: Limited Edition (BD/DVD)

It arrived safely, not to worry.

Attack on Titan was the most popular shounen series of 2013 and in just 14 months after broadcast it managed to arrive on Blu-ray. The series has been given a different treatment similarly to Psycho Pass where it's got tons of additional content outside the discs. This release is a digibook, like a digipack (see Anime Limited's special releases as an example) but includes a 24 page book in the centre (see the Kaze release of Berserk Golden Age: Egg of the King as one primary example). The series is about humanity's struggle to survive as giant human like people called Titans have almost taken over and are devouring humanity one by one.

The Funimation release contains the English and Japanese audio with locked English subtitles for the Japanese version. The version I picked up was the Limited Edition set which includes a booklet and 3D lenticular art card. The series is region locked to Region A and Region 1 players, the series was originally supposed to be compatible to Region B, Region 2 & Region 4 players but for unknown reasons something happened.

Plot Synopsis (via Back cover):
When the man-eating giants called Titans first appeared, humans retreated behind massive walls. After a hundred years of safety, a colossal-sized Titan smashes through the defenses, unleashing a flood of giants and carnage in the streets. Eren Jaeger watches helplessly as one of the creatures devours his mother.

He vows to kill every Titan walking the earth.

Eren and his surviving friends enlist to fight against the insatiable monsters. The future looks bleak, but there’s more to Eren than meets the eye: he may be humanity’s last hope against extinction. From the director of Death Note and High School of the Dead comes the series Anime News Network calls “an intense, visceral, and graphic thrill ride.” The Titans have come to feast. Anything can happen. No one is safe.
