Unboxing [US]: Eureka Seven - Part 1: Limited Edition (Blu-ray)

It took a while to arrive but here's the return of an anime classic, now available on Blu-ray.

Eureka Seven is a 2005 series from studio Bones and is currently one of the most popular shows in the anime community. The series went out of print at one point due to Bandai & Beez's demise but it was eventually rescued by Funimation (and here in the UK Anime Limited acquired the rights). Funimation put out the show on separate formats rather than a combo pack due to the 50 episode length.

This release from Funimation is the limited edition version. Discs are identical but the limited edition includes a box to house both parts of the series. The first part covers episodes 1-26 across three Blu-ray discs plus a separate DVD disc for certain bonus features that are only in standard definition from the original Bandai Entertainment release. The series is available in English & Japanese audio with English subtitles. The subtitles are unlockable and the regions are locked to A only. The Blu-ray is also in 1080i as the title itself is an upscaled master, note that this is from the Japanese source and not one of Funimation's in-house works.

Plot Synopsis (via Funimation):

Renton is a teenager trapped working as a mechanic in a backwater town. He dreams of joining up with a daredevil group of pilots known as Gekkostate and following in his father’s heroic footsteps. When a mysterious beauty named Eureka shows up asking for a tune up, Renton soon finds himself drawn into a high-flying mecha dogfight that makes him a target of the military. When the dust settles on the spectacular battle, Renton is invited to join Gekkostate, but he soon discovers that even a dream come true has a dark side.
