Unboxing [UK]: R.O.D. The TV - Complete Series: Artbox Edition (DVD)

Despite their change of packaging style, I managed to come across one of their previous designs for their releases and while it's a used copy, it's in good condition so I'm here to show all of you an example of the good o' days of MVM Entertainment. Here is an unboxing of the TV version of Read or Die (aka R.O.D.).

Read or Die had two types of adaptations, an OVA series which was licensed by the old Manga Entertainment (now out of print) and the Television series which now the license has just expired so the show won't be reprinted. This series follows a group of sisters who are part of the Paper Sisters Detective Agency and they each have the ability to use paper for dozens of things and such the trio solve mysteries together. That's all of what I know since I haven't seen the series yet.

The show has been given a Blu-ray release from Aniplex of America (which was one of their first as well) alongside the OVA in one limited edition boxset but sadly the English version has long gone been out of print with no sign of a re-release despite the Japanese version still continuing, though it doesn't have the English dub, subtitles and translated booklet.

This version I am presenting was one of the first type of releases from MVM before the industry changed format. This release is presented with an art-box and dozens of DVD-sized slim-cases (similar to the complete Death Note set from Manga UK, without the hardback art-box), each have a disc from the volume sets that the show was originally sold in. The Artbox style releases are also long gone and out of print as they are now replaced with thick cases that hold all of the discs the show can have (like the Berserk (TV) unboxing I've done a while back).

DVD Language: English, Japanese

In terms of the content themselves, it's a direct replica of the original Geneon Entertainment release from America as the Geneon logo is shown before the main menu appears.

Plot:
Five years have passed since the occurrence of the incident known as the "Human Annihilation Mission." In Japan, a novelist is dealing with writer's block after her friend has gone missing. In Hong Kong, three sisters, masters in the use of paper, run their own detective agency to solve cases that involve books. When these people are brought together, a bond greater than blood is formed - a bond that will be sorely tested by the evil powers intent on taking over the world.

Join Anita, Maggie, Michelle, and Nenene as they travel the globe in order to save the world from the evil mastermind, Mr. Carpenter! Of course, that's if they can find the time to put down the books they're reading...

Extra Content (On-Disc):
Art Gallery

Japanese Previews (Discs 1, 2, 3, 4 & 6 only)

Read or Die, the complete series is out of print in America thanks to Geneon (DVD) and Aniplex of America (Blu-ray) while the UK and Australia should have some copies left from MVM and Madman.
