Unboxing [US]: Guilty Crown - Part 1: Limited Edition (BD/DVD)

After the amount of trailers based on this show and the fanbase claiming it's really good and then really bad, it's time to unbox the Limited Edition release of Guilty Crown from Funimation.

Note that this post has been updated (4th November 2015) to reflect the new blog format and add additional notes to the release.

Guilty Crown is directed from the same director of Death Note and Highschool of the Dead anime. Since I have yet to watch the series I can't explain much about the story but apparently it falls flat in the second half but then again the soundtrack (done by Supercell) which sounds really good from the trailer is actually one major positive point for the show in its entirety. This Limited Edition set also includes two booklets full of artwork (they contain spoilers so I won't show them in this post).

This Funimation release contains the first half of the series with episodes 1-11 across 2 Blu-ray and 2 DVD discs. Given this is a Funi release the extra content is self-explanatory with the usual Funi extras but there are extras that stand out like the 4-Panel Theater shorts. The series is only compatible with Region A and Region 1 players.

Plot Synopsis (via Funimation):
Shu's entire world was shattered after a meteorite crashed into Japan, unleashing the lethal Apocalypse Virus. The chaos and anarchy born of the outbreak cost Shu his family and reduced him to a timid, fearful shell of the boy he'd once been. His life took another unexpected turn after a chance encounter with the stunning pop star, Inori. This mysterious beauty introduced Shu to the King's Right Hand: a genetic mutation that allows him to reach into the hearts of mortals and turn them into weapons. The visceral action of this visual masterpiece escalates as Shu finds himself caught in the crossfire between those who desperately seek his newfound strength. On one site lurks a clandestine government agency – and on the other, Inori and the spirited band of rebels known as Funeral Parlor. The choice is Shu's to make – and the world is his to change.
