Unboxing [US]: Last Exile -Fam, The Silver Wing- - Part 1: Limited Edition (BD/DVD)

In this latest post, I check out the first half of Last Exile -Fam, the Silver Wing-. This is the Limited Edition set from Funimation.

Note that this post has been updated (30th January 2016) to reflect the new blog format and add additional notes to the release.

Fam, The Silver Wing is the second season to the well-received Last Exile series released nearly a decade ago. The second season is like Eureka Seven's Astral Ocean where it doesn't follow the previous season other than a few certain aspects and the name itself while also not gaining much reception from fans of the original season. In terms of what I thought of this series without having any prior knowledge of the main series I felt it was pretty good. Sure it won't match what the original did but it's trying I guess.

This Funimation release contains the first half of the second series with episodes 1-11 and an OVA across 2 Blu-ray and 2 DVD discs. Given this is a Funi release the extra content is self-explanatory with the usual Funi extras but there are some interesting additions like the Anime Expo interview and anime shorts. The series is only compatible with Region A and Region 1 players. The set does have a reversible cover so you can pick which character you want on the front (this is also available on the standard edition sets). Unlike the usual Part 1 Limited Editions this set keeps the back info and technical specs on both covers. This set does have locked subtitles for the Blu-ray, the DVD however is unlockable.

Years ago, humanity abandoned the ruined Blue World. Generations later, with the planet again capable of sustaining life, mankind returned. In the skies above the reborn world, rebellious young Fam and her best friend Giselle make their living as Sky Pirates. Atop sleek Vespa Vanships, the girls dart fearlessly through the clouds, capturing and selling airborne battleships for profit. It’s a life of care-free swashbuckling – until the Ades Federation attacks. The only nation to remain on Blue World during humanity’s exile, The Ades Federation wages war against those who returned only after the planet’s darkest days had passed. When Fam and Giselle rescue a princess from the clutches of the rampaging Ades armada, they join the young royal’s battle to save her Kingdom from destruction – and undertake the impossible mission of uniting humanity in peace.
