Unboxing [UK]: Summer Wars - Film (Blu-ray)

Next unboxing title for this post is all about saving the world by playing around with social networks - Summer Wars.

Note that this post has been updated (4th June 2015) to reflect the new blog format and add additional notes to the release.

Summer Wars is a film directed by Mamoru Hosoda who many have known for directing other classic anime works like Digimon the Movie and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Summer Wars focuses more on family and how each of them matter when a major incident occurs on social networks that only they can stop. Its a fun and amusing film which I highly recommend to anyone who just started going into anime.

This Blu-ray release is from Manga Entertainment and uses the Madman master. The on-disc contents include the film and various extra content. My copy was part of a double pack which featured The Girl Who Leapt Through Time at a reasonable price (both films are in separate cases). Like other Manga UK titles the disc is locked to Region B and the subtitles are unlockable.

As Kenji attempts to keep up with Natsuki's act around her family, he receives a strange math problem on his cell phone which, being a math genius, he can't resist solving. As it turns out, the solution to the mysterious equation causes Oz, the program that controls nearly every aspect of life to be hacked into, it's up to Kenji and his new "family" to stop the hacker before it's too late.
